General Information

The ultrasound machine uses sound waves to make live images of the arteries and veins in your body.  No radiation is used during an ultrasound exam.  The ultrasound technologist collects the images for each exam according to a specific protocol.  The doctor then evaluates these images and goes over the results with you during a separate appointment.

We use gel for the ultrasound exams because we can’t see anything without it!  It is a water-based gel which easily washes off with soap and water.

How we report your results: Exam results will be available within 24 hours of your exam, after they have been interpreted by one of our experienced vascular surgeons.  For urgent findings, the results are communicated immediately upon completion of the exam.  Otherwise, the doctor will discuss exam results and treatment recommendations with you at a separate appointment.  A final signed report will be sent to your physician within two days.
