A thoracic outlet exam is done to evaluate for compression of the artery in the shoulder region. The ultrasound technologist will attach a special sensor to the first finger of your hand and then evaluate the artery while you move your arm into different positions. This will be repeated on the other arm. The technologist will then use ultrasound to evaluate the arteries and veins in your shoulder region.
Helpful Hints:
- Tank-tops work well for this exam (otherwise you may wear a gown).
- Please do not wear necklaces.
